Dr. Sandhya obtained her MBBS degree with Gold Medal as Best Outgoing Student from University of Kerala (T.D. Medical College) in 1989. In 1990, Dr. Sandhya joined her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in General Medicine in the same college and underwent the three year residency programme in different subspecialties of medicine like Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology and hematology apart from training in General Medicine and Completed her MD in 1993.
