Malnourishment is a major public health problem in India. According to the National Family Health Survey 4 (NFHS 4), 36.7% of children under five years of age are malnourished, 38.4% are stunted, and 21% are wasted in India. Children, pregnant, and lactating women are most affected by it, leading to increased susceptibility to infections and physical and mental growth retardation.
