With progress in modern medicine and better care, the number of elderly people in India is increasing constantly. It is projected that elderly population will be 96.3 million in 2015, 100 million in 2025, 198 million in 2030 and 300.96 million by 2051. The fact that over 9 % of the population in India is above 60 years of age as well as the concern showed by the W.H.O in Ageing, society will have to take up the responsibility of supporting the care givers and itself design interventions to support the elderly in self-care. Guiding Principle for the Project-the W.H.O. guidelines W.H.O has identified eight social factors that can affect the health of an individual and in turn society.
