Due to regular assaults and increasing violence by patients and their relatives, resident doctors of AIIMS have decided to protect themselves. Apart from studying medical courses and treating patients, the resident doctors at AIIMS will take self-defence classes from black belt champions in martial arts, including taekwondo from May 15. The president of AIIMS Resident Doctors Association (RDA) said that, “Two black belt champions will impart self-defence skills to the candidates daily at AIIMS”.
Previously, doctors from other hospitals have also participated in a self-defence program where the training session was conducted by Women and Child Protection Special Unit of the Delhi Police. Source: Times of India Do you think that providing self-defence would minimise violence against doctors?
