Opioids are commonly prescribed for pain. However, opioids come with a plethora of adverse effect along with risk of overdose and chance of drug abuse. Therefore, a concrete guideline should be generated to regulate the opioid prescription in clinical setting.
Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, USA (CDC) has formulated a guideline using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) framework, and recommendations are made on the basis of a systematic review of the scientific evidence while considering benefits and harms, values and preferences, and resource allocation.
