National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has recently exonerated the anesthetist and the hospital, who was alleged by a complainant (husband) for medical negligence and mismanagement during an emergency Cesarian section that resulted in his wife’s death. Case history The complainant's wife was under regular observation in a civil hospital during her pregnancy. When the labor pain started, she was referred to a second hospital by her treating doctor who was an anesthetist. A surgeon performed a cesarean section at the second hospital. After giving birth to a female baby, the mother became critical and unconscious.

The patient was then sent to a tertiary care hospital for further treatment. The patient died on the way to the tertiary care hospital. The cause of death mentioned in the death certificate was septicemia with labor pains. The complainant (husband) approached the…
