The discovery of antibiotics was one of the greatest achievements of the last century that helped cure otherwise fatal infections as well as made complicated surgeries possible without the fear of post- operative sepsis. But we are now facing a grave challenge with steadily spreading resistant infections, from Vancomycin resistant staph aureus to extensively resistant TB to Artesunate  resistant Malaria. What human ingenuity and dedication made possible, our complacency and greed make impossible. There are not many new antibiotics in the making, but there are superbugs steadily on the rise.
