According to a report published in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, a strong correlation was established between Hypertension and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). While GERD has been known to play a role in cardiovascular diseases, the exact role of GERD required further exploration. The study was conducted on 86 hypertension patients, 44.2% of whom were found to have GERD. Patients with GERD recorded a higher nocturnal BP compared to non-GERD patients.

Interestingly, it was observed that antacids could not only restore the oesophageal pH but also helped in the maintenance of a normal pH. Source: Zhi-tong L et al. Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology 2018; 52 (8): 685–690
