According to a recent study, it was suggested that one should not fast before going for a blood cholesterol test. The research was carried out on 525 patients who attended endocrinology clinics in Michigan. Before a blood cholesterol test is carried it is a standard recommendation that a person should fast for several hours to get the most accurate results . However, a new study has shown in people with diabetes, such approach could do more harm than doing good .
New research led by specialists at Michigan State University reported that fasting before a blood cholesterol test can give rise to low blood sugar, or hypoglycemia, in individuals with diabetes who take insulin or sulfonylurea .
