The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has approved Leqembi for the treatment of early Alzheimer's disease, marking the introduction of India's first disease-modifying therapy  for the condition. India has a rapidly ageing population, and the burden of age-related neurological disorders continues to increase. The AIIMS-USC Longitudinal Ageing Study in India estimated that around 8.8 million Indians aged over 60 years were living with dementia in 2023 , with the number projected to double by 2036. Leqembi is a humanized monoclonal antibody that selectively targets aggregated amyloid-beta.
