The central government of India celebrated national organ donation day on 27 November 29 this year. During the celebration, Minister for Health and Family Welfare indicated further training in Organ and Tissue Transplant in Government Hospitals. The organ donation scenario in India is very worrisome. Most recent data shows that over 1,00,000 patients require organ donation but only one-fourth of them receive organ transplant, but only 5,000 of all patients receive successful treatment.

Focusing on this critical health issue, the Prime Minister of India in his last engagement with nation emphasized the need of organ donation drive and suggested November 27 as the National Organ Donation Awareness Day.
