Surgeons at the department of heart, chest, and vascular surgery at the state-run hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, have achieved a rare and remarkable milestone by successfully saving a patient with Spontaneous Carotid Artery Rupture (SCAR), an exceptionally uncommon and often fatal vascular emergency. According to global medical literature, only about 10 cases of SCAR have been documented worldwide, making this the first successfully treated case reported from Chhattisgarh and among the very few survivals globally. The patient, a 40-year-old local shopkeeper with no known medical comorbidities, experienced sudden and severe neck pain while brushing his teeth at home.
