Doctors at the state-run Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital have successfully performed a high-risk lung surgery on a 25-year-old man suffering from severe hemoptysis, a life-threatening condition in which he had been coughing up blood for nearly a decade. The complex procedure saved the patient’s life after his condition worsened significantly over the past month, with episodes causing blood loss of nearly 50 ml to 70 ml with every cough. The patient, a resident of Chataud near Abhanpur, was diagnosed with a large cavity in the lower lobe of the right lung caused by aspergilloma, a fungal infection commonly associated with a history of tuberculosis.
