Today our Hon'ble Prime Minister launched the " Swatch Bharath " programme ostensibly to showcase our country to foreign tourists and investors to come to India, which has acquired international notoriety as one of the dirtiest countries in the world. There is no doubt that we must support his honest effort at cleaning up the length and breadth of the country, which is an awesome task. Coincidentally today is also the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of our Nation, who always held that Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
He believed that every one must be responsible for his own personal cleanliness and ensured that everyone in his ashram cleaned his own toilet thus obviating the need for scavengers ( who were then treated as Untouchables).
