Prevention is better than cure is an age old saying. I would like to modify this by saying "Prevention is better and cheaper than cure". It is customary to include curative care as the priority in health care delivery. But, it is necessary to introspect ourselves and realize that curative approach had never been of any help the human life. Since centuries, it remained a highly expensive and lowly effective way of health care.
The human suffering remained unabated in spite of proliferation of health care services. The advent of preventive medicine had kindled a ray of hope for the health care providers in controlling the unwanted morbidity and mortality. Yet an average health care provider still wants to build ivory towers in the form of hospitals and perpetuate the false pride and prestige. The concept of prevention did not perish and remained in the minds of a few enlightened people.…
