The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recently published updated guidelines based on recent scientific research and clinical trials on Standards of Care in Diabetes – 2023, which include recommendations for the screening and management of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in diabetic people. NALFD includes nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) as the most common form of liver disease affecting around 70% of diabetic people leading to cirrhosis or liver cancer, and is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. ##Table 1.
