A Raipur-based hospital has been held accountable for gross medical negligence after the death of a patient, with the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC), Chhattisgarh, upholding an award of more than Rs. 16 lakh in compensation. The complaint was filed by the patient’s wife, who alleged that lapses in treatment and contradictions in the hospital’s defence led to the untimely death of her husband. The case dates back to 2010, when the patient was admitted between December 18 and 24 for laser surgery on his urinary tract.
The doctors declared him fully recovered at the time of discharge. However, just two days later, on December 26, he complained of severe pain and was rushed back to the same hospital.
