My chief used to say that if he cured a patient he would get one or two patients but if a patient died under his care he would get ten or more patients sometimes straight from the funeral. I thought about this hard it made no sense to me initially. But in reality, a lot of relatives and friends gathered. When a patient is sick I used to do a lot of counseling and slowly prepare them for the inevitable enemy of our lives death. The more time that is spent with the patient the more they appreciate that.
If phone calls are made late in the night they get to know that somehow. The hours spent are well utilized, everyone gets convinced you to care and indeed you do care and try your best.You touch the emotions of the patient and the family.
