Ophthalmia is known as bilateral granulomatous panuveitis. It was as a matter of fact that disorders in past in pre-antibiotic and pre-corticosteroid era and also when we did not have anterior and posterior segment surgeon’s modern ophthalmic equipment’s and microscopes so any perforating eye injury with incarceration of iris or vitreous in the wound was a risk factor for ophthalmias. So, one had to nucleate the injured eye period. Sympathetic ophthalmia was one to three months so was also reported in past after cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery like iridencleisis trephine paracentesis and perforated corneal ulcer.
In recent times no case of sympathetic ophthalmia is reported due to recent ophthalmic advances. Share your views. .
