The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the launch of a low-cost clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-based COVID-19 test. CRISPR is a technology used to edit genomes and can be used to develop fast and accurate diagnostic tests for infectious diseases. This test uses the novel and indigenous CRISPR technology for the detection of the COVID-19 genomic sequence. This CRISPR-based test utilizes a specially adapted Cas9 protein for detecting the novel coronavirus.
