A study from the Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Virology has identified varying degrees of permethrin resistance among Aedes aegypti mosquitoes collected from several parts of Pune, raising concerns about the effectiveness of pyrethroid-based vector-control strategies. Researchers examined adult Aedes aegypti collected between February and May 2024 from nine Pune Municipal Corporation wards , including Pashan, Susgaon, Khadki, Yerawada, Warje, Hadapsar, Kondhwa, Kothrud and Dhankawdi. The mosquitoes were subjected to the standard 0.75% permethrin concentration used in World Health Organization susceptibility testing, with survival used to assess resistance.
