The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC), Coimbatore, has held a private dentist liable for medical negligence following a faulty tooth extraction that resulted in infection, complications, and subsequent implant procedures. The commission has directed the dentist to pay Rs 1 lakh as compensation for the patient’s physical and mental suffering, along with Rs 5,000 towards legal expenses. The case originated earlier this year when a woman from Pappanaickenpalayam, Coimbatore, sought treatment at a private dental clinic in New Siddhapudur for a toothache. After undergoing a scan, the dentist proceeded with tooth extraction.
