According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), dexamethasone might be a game-changer in reducing mortality in COVID-19 patients. It helps in reducing 28-days mortality in patients suffering from COVID-19. An infection leads to the body producing cytokines as a part of the immune response. The excessive immune response seen in COVID-19 patients leads to an aggravated inflammatory response. This is known as the cytokine storm, which can lead to life-threatening lung inflammation and damage.

Oxford University and the MoHFW have reported that dexamethasone, due to its anti-inflammatory activity, might help control the inflammatory response when given at a dose of 0.1 to 0.2 mg/kg for three days.
