I am writing this piece as a hospital administrator to seek the opinions of our community and also inform those who are not informed about this issue. The harsh fact is that many hospitals all over India, are employing non MBBS doctors to work in wards, ICUs, and Emergency rooms, Casualty etc. This is being done for a variety of reasons, but the practice is rampant. Reasons for doing so are many: non MBBS Doctors (with qualifications like BAMS, BHMS and BUMS) are paid much lower salaries than MBBS Drs. They tend to stay in one job for much longer, and are thus considered more "loyal".
They don't keep resigning and rejoining, as MBBS Drs do, for the purpose of studying for PG entrance exams. MBBS Drs often rejoin the same hospital after they fail to get a PG seat. Many of them take courses in Emergency medicine, and very few MBBS Drs take such courses. I have personally met many…
