A 43-year-old pulmonologist collapsed and died in front of patient after working an 18-hour shift without break. This incidence happened in China. The late Dr. Zhao Bianxiang had started her shift the previous day before 6pm and continued work without resting. She collapsed just after 12 pm next day while visiting a patient. She had told her colleagues that she was ‘too busy’ to take a break.
The hospital said that she died from a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Her colleagues said that she was a ‘workaholic’ who always put her profession before anything else. This incidence is very unfortunate. The condition of Indian doctors is not very different. A recent report had stated the stark truth that Indian doctors die early than general public.
