It is a known fact that metformin does not cause hypoglycemia and it produces euglycemia. Case:- A non-diabetic, the hypertensive patient took metformin 500xl in place of Metoprolol50xl due to the wrong sale of medication by the error committed by the chemist. After 2 days patient's condition deteriorated due to hypoglycemia. Consumer court fined chemist Rs 60,000/-.for this error.
The review revealed that metformin can cause hypoglycemia by improving mechanisms of how insulin handles glucose. Metformin is also used in non-diabetic conditions like obesity and PCOS. What are your opinion and experience in this case?
