A 12-year-old boy from a village in Uttar Pradesh was taken to a private hospital with a complaint of stomach pain. He was treated by a doctor and recovered subsequently. However, one month later, the boy experienced throat pain. His grandfather took him to a district hospital for urgent medical attention. An ENT surgeon at the hospital ordered an X-ray image, which revealed a one-rupee coin stuck in the boy’s throat. The coin was lodged in the side of the patient’s food pipe in a way that the boy did not face much problem.
According to the patient’s uncle, he swallowed the coin seven years ago. The surgeon removed the coin successfully using a laparoscopy procedure.
