Enteric hyperoxaluria is characterized by fat malabsorption caused due to enhanced colonic permeability and oxalate solubility. Increased intestinal absorption of dietary oxalate results in elevated renal oxalate excretion. Although several factors, including the presence of intestinal disease and intake of oxalate-rich food may result in enteric hyperoxaluria, intestinal resection or intestinal bypass surgeries are the most common causes of this condition. ##Disclaimer## The content provided on Docplexus is intended for educational purposes only.
