Chest pain is a common manifestation of coronary heart disease. However, non-specific chest pains are not always associated with a cardiac disorder and may be classified as noncardiac chest pain. For an ideal classification and prevention of misdiagnosis in an OPD, the awareness of the patient’s long-term history and assessment of risk indicators is crucial.
Clinical examination, details of pain location and radiation, exacerbating or diminishing factors can help narrow down the diagnosis. Interdisciplinary diagnostic tests, activity tests, and imaging aid in the assessment of a proper diagnosis that would lead to proper management. It is of utmost importance that every paramedic and medic know the management of chest pain in case of emergencies, irrespective of the diagnosis– be it situation-based, medication-based, or equipment-based, as failing to do so might cause a loss of life.…
