A team of doctors in Abu Dhabi, for the first time, carried out a robot-assisted total knee replacement surgery on a 61 year-old Emirati. The patient had been suffering from debilitating pain in his right knee for more than a decade. In this procedure, surgeons at first used robotic surgery techniques to obtain a 360-degree 3D view of the patient’s body. Thereafter, artificial Intelligence was used to map out the procedure involved in the replacement surgery.

Surgeon then used controls in a robotic console to manipulate surgical instruments attached to a robotic arm to proceed with the surgery. Following the surgery, the patient was recovering well and was scheduled for discharge shortly. Source: The National UAE
