Assisted reproductive technology encompasses in vitro fertilization , transfer of intra-fallopian gamete, intra-fallopian zygote transfer, and the transmission of frozen embryos. Other disciplines of medicine are beginning to recognize the importance of assisted reproduction: cancer survival rates are steadily rising, and there is now a pressing need for methods to retain fertility following sterilizing chemo- and radiation treatments.
