A suspected outbreak of hantavirus aboard a polar expedition cruise ship has raised concern, though global health authorities emphasize that the overall public risk remains low. The vessel, MV Hondius, operated by Oceanwide Expeditions, was sailing off the coast of Cape Verde when the situation emerged. The cruise departed from Argentina about three weeks ago, carrying approximately 150 passengers. Its itinerary included Antarctica and other remote regions before heading toward West Africa.

During the journey, several passengers developed symptoms consistent with hantavirus infection, prompting medical concern and emergency response measures.
