The Bombay high court has ordered an interim stay on the Medical Council of India (MCI) order by saying that MCI cannot suspend the registration of a doctor without giving prior notice. This order came into light when MCI suspended the registration of a senior surgeon who was practicing without renewing his registration for over two decades. In this regard, a bench of justices said that, “MCI must issue a prior notice to the practicing doctor along with valid reason before the suspension.

Furthermore, the bench also directed the MCI authority to efficiently decide the doctor's appeal challenging the suspension order. Source: PTI
