In a shocker, the health ministry has barred 82 medical colleges to admit students for the academic session 2018-19 on MCI’s recommendation. This news comes as a blow to these 70 private and 12 government colleges, meaning >10,000 MBBS seats out of 64,000 available will be blocked. The ministry’s decision comes after recommendations from MCI, as various deficiencies in terms of inadequate infrastructure, faculty and resources among others were revealed during inspection.
