Mr. Faisal Nawaz, from New Delhi, is a 29 years old researcher at Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore. He had operated progressive kyphoscoliosis of the thoracic spine and presented with restrictive lung disease and progressive breathing difficulty of 9 months duration. He was gasping for breath even at rest and was unable to complete any sentence without swallowing a few words.

He was using BiPAP at nights to overcome breathlessness and hypoxia. He had been operated thrice at the age of 12 years and 19 years at New Delhi for the same problem of spinal deformity (probably secondary to either an idiopathic or a neuromuscular origin) and also the flail left shoulder (secondary to post-polio residual paralysis).
