Violence against doctors in India is not new. Doctors are the backbone of the health care system, still, they have to suffer such inhuman incidences, perhaps to a greater extent. According to a survey, done by the Indian Medical Association in 2015, more than 75% of doctors in India have faced violence in some way or the other.
Many steps have been taken to mark the prevention of violence in the form of protests or introduction of new rules and regulations by the government. In this regard, a new directive issued by the Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of NCT, Delhi, ruled that the heads of departments of Delhi government-run hospitals or institutions have been directed to file FIR or complaint in case of any abuse or violence by patients or attendants.
