There is an urgent need to transform the healthcare system in India. India was ranked at 112 out of 190 countries by World Health Organisation's 2000 report. Public health system in India is poorly funded with poor infrastructure and inadequate rural coverage. People usually don't have faith in the public system and visit private clinics and private hospitals. The private health sector is a major player to provide health services in India.
The private health sector is highly unregulated with great variation in quality, services, and their fee structures. Private health insurance penetration is still quite low. People usually have to pay significant out of pocket expenses for seeking medical treatment.
