Ibuprofen is extensively used both in adults and children. In several countries, it is available as OTC which means it is/can be taken unsupervised by people. Recently, an excellent review has been published online, which I have summarized below. I think it provides a very good summary of the safety profile of ibuprofen in pediatric age group.

It is interesting to understand how it was initiated by the Italian authors who wrote the review. Due to its good safety profile, it is the only NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory Drugs) approved for use in children above 3 months of age. Along with the fact that it is available as OTC drug led to increased unsupervised use of the drug in the paediatric population in Italy and the regulatory authorities noticed a small but definite increase in the adverse events reported in children following the use of ibuprofen.
