Conventional surgical extraction of impacted mandibular third molar conjointly requires a lateral flap reflection and lateral rotary osteotomy for the extrusion of the tooth. The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate the efficacy of a novel inward fragmentation technique (IFT) in conjunction with an occlusal mini flap approach to reduce the amount of bone removal to a minimum and thereby performing the procedure more conservatively. The Databases of PubMed, Cochrane and Google scholar were searched for the related topics along with a complimentary manual search of all oral surgery journals till December 2019.
