The use of I-131 therapy to treat thyroid disorders is considered one of the breakthroughs in the field of nuclear medicine. 1 I-131 therapy is beneficial in the ablation of remnant cancer cells, as an adjuvant treatment, and locoregional and/or metastasis of well-differentiated thyroid cancer. 2 The adjuvant I-131 treatment is a reasonable treatment option for differentiated thyroid carcinoma patients with a primary tumor measuring more than 1 cm in diameter. 3 The pharmacokinetics, excretion routes of I-131, the risk, and complications associated with its use must be well-understood by the healthcare providers administering the radioactive therapy and patients receiving it.
