Why one should use azithromycin in URTI? In proven bacterial infections like otitis media, tonsillar abscess Bactericidals like Quinolones , B-Lactams or even co-trimoxazole should be preferred over bacteriostatic Azithromycin. Though claimed , there are no official documentory evidences about anti viral properties of Azithromycin.
In pediatric patients , it is widely prescribed in Common cold. of cause children needs antibiotic therapy for possible Steptococcus pyogenous infection but Amoxicillin or Cefadroxyl are much better choice then Azithromycin. Is azithromycin overrated antimicrobial in India?
