A 65 years old patient undergoing treatment for his cardiac problem with dual antiplatelet therapy i.e Clopidogrel and Aspirin 75mg with other drugs. This patient had fallen in his house and had fractured a neck of femur( right) and got admitted to the hospital for fixation of the fracture. Now as this patient is on dual antiplatelet therapy, as per guidelines, clopidogrel should be stopped for 4-5 days before we take this patient for surgery or if INR is within normal value i. e 1.4 or less, should we accept the patient for surgery.
Is INR mandatory in the patient who is on dual antiplatelet therapy, if so, how INR investigation helps when the patient is not on anticoagulant treatment. Should we order for any other lab investigation or proceed with this semi-emergency?
