Previous reports on the association between periodontitis and Helicobacter pylori have been analyzed in hospital-based studies and have produced conflicting results. Their association in the general population remains to be explored. Knowledge of the exact association between both diseases is essential for designing and implementing effective care strategies. Recently, researchers analyzed 23 studies (case-control and cross-sectional) to determine the association between the presence of H. pylori and periodontal diseases (PDs).
The odds ratio (OR) of the presence of H. pylori infection in patients with PDs was 2.47 (P = 0.001) and 2.77 (P = 0.049) after considering case-control studies.
