A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure that replaces a non-functional kidney with a healthy kidney of a living or a deceased donor. In a healthy human, it is necessary to filter and remove the waste, minerals, and fluid from the blood by producing urine.

This mechanism is facilitated by the pair of kidneys, which in the diseased condition is not possible. End-stage kidney diseases can be caused due to diabetes, chronic, uncontrolled blood pressure, chronic glomerulonephritis or even polycystic kidney diseases.
