In the healthcare industry, medical devices play a major role in screening, diagnosing and treating a disease condition. Doctors often prescribe nebulizers for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and blood pressure (BP) monitoring devices to the elderly and hypertensive patients. Glucometers are also widely prescribed for diabetic patients to monitor their blood glucose levels at home. As per the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), it will now be mandatory to procure a license for the import and manufacture of such medical devices.
Medical devices like nebulizers, BP monitoring devices, digital thermometers, and glucometers will now require licensing from the State or Central Licensing Authority.
