As per Medical Council guidelines , medical license to practice medicine must be renewed once in every 3 to 5 years, followed in few states of India. The directive was passed by Health Ministry three years before. Under the quote ‘the doctrine of patients deserves the best’ , the Medical Council of India has tried to weed out the fake doctors or quacks who are practicing without a valid medical degree.
According to the directive, medical practitioners have to earn 30 credit hours every five years by attending continuing medical education (CME) programme, workshops, conference, online CME, etc. So far, Karnataka Medical Council (KMC) has re-registered more than one lakh doctors from the state along with those who have relocated in other states or a foreign country.
