As a psychiatrist, we encounter many Conversion Disorder and Dissociative Disorder cases in our OPD. Pseudo-seizures, sudden onset aphonia, pseudo-paralysis, sudden onset blindness are some common symptom presentations of it. A well-concerted management should entail ruling out possible organic (eg. neurological) causes for the symptoms followed by detailed evaluation of stressors, reinforcing factors from the near ones, psychoeducation to family members etc.

Traditional psycho-therapeutic approaches with chemical ab-reaction and others are seldom practicable in our OPDs since it consumes time and majorly we are not enough adept in practicing it. Often family members are hell bent on getting some medications prescribed at the first instance. I want my colleagues in this field to please share your expert opinions about how you manage such cases in your daily OPD. Thank you.
