A Seventeen-year-old female with Type 1 Diabetes and has recently moved to college and as a result, lives alone. She has a service dog that reliably “smells” sugar lows and alerts the kid. However, when such a low occurs during sleep she tends to not even wake up from the barking of the dog which causes very dangerous situations that can ultimately be lethal. When she was at home, parents woke up and subsequently woke the kid to manage blood sugar levels.
Recently, she had such an episode that landed her in the ER and she had to be hospitalized for nearly a week . This is real case narrated by one of my friends in the USA. According to you, what would be the management strategy for such situation?
