There are a few fundamental changes that need to happen in our medical education system and healthcare practice to ensure a safe and smooth patient-doctor relationship. There was a time doctors held moral high ground and patients obeyed them without questioning and that is no longer the case. Doctors are now service providers and the proper communication will tremendously help build trust and confidence between patient and doctor. Unfortunately there is very little emphasis on communication skill in our medical syllabus, and naturally many of us have no ideas how to deal with patient's concerns and queries in this age of knowledge explosion and information proliferation.
