Query: Many patients come to casualty with dislocation or extraction of the tooth following an injury on the face as a result of the fight with others. The dentists, many times are able to put the teeth in its original position by certain techniques. Many a times, teeth was mobile due to periodontal disease. kindly let me know what kind of injury it should be labelled (simple or grievous) please explain in detail for the benefit of casualty doctors dealing with medico legal cases.
Answer: As per Section 320 IPC Grievous hurt has one clause which states permanent dislocation of bone or tooth is grievous hurt. In all cases of dental dislocations, please see whether the tooth is dislocated due to old age, poor dental hygiene, disease or injury.
